SCROLL DOWN

As a Realtor, I have received calls from individuals asking me to list land that is not theirs to list. I know to check. As Realtors we have tools to verify phone numbers.  We have tools to verify the true property owners.

You have a tool as well, but it requires being pro-active.  There is a subscription service called Property Alert. It is a FREE notification service for Berrien County property owners, and it can assist in combating potential fraud by monitoring your property. Once registered, you will receive an automated email notification anytime a deed, mortgage, release, or other official document is recorded under your name at the Register of Deeds office.

All too often we are unaware of property fraud and identity theft. Here is a way to have a heads-up if someone is tampering with your real estate holdings.

How to Sign Up & Get in Touch:

Website: Register online at berrien.mi.publicsearch.us

Office Address: Berrien County Register of Deeds, 701 Main Street, St. Joseph (located in the old Washington School gymnasium)

Phone: (269) 983-7111, ext. 18562

If you do get a notification, call the above number, it could simply be a clerical error.
